Advanced Driving is for all drivers who wish to improve their skills, build confidence and become a safer, more focused and aware driver.
Improving Skills
There are many skills to driving and like any skill, it’s all about how well you can do them. Advanced drivers are not claiming to be better than you, but they are better now than when they took some extra tuition.
For some it might be to demonstrate that they can drive to a gold standard, whereas for others it might be to improve enough to restore self-confidence in particular skill activities. Not everybody on the road has had motorway training or instruction about night driving and it’s a good bet that when you bought your car you were not given full, if any, instructions on all the vehicle facilities.
The important thing is to ask yourself, “Do I want to be a better driver?”

Learning to be a confident, safe driver takes a great deal of practise beyond your initial driving test. It comes from familiarity and practise across a huge range of situations and challenges that driving can present.
A lack of confidence or nervousness whilst driving affects a great many people. Sometimes a driving incident – an accident, a scary event or close call – can undermine confidence and introduce anxiety into every day car travel. It often has little to do with your driving skill, but feelings like this can hamper your driving ability and certainly make it a miserable experience.
Learning Advanced Driving techniques is an excellent way to address this. With the support of an experienced tutor sitting next to you, confidence can be rebuilt by practising existing driving fundamentals and learning new techniques to increase awareness, car control and safety. Having an experienced tutor validate your driving technique will remind you that you’re able to be an authoritative and confident driver and learn to enjoy the experience again.
Learning Safety and Driving Maturity
In contrast, sometimes drivers begin their driving career with an abundance of confidence and enthusiasm for driving. Whilst this is an excellent starting point, for some it can lead to unsafe driving practises where driving speed, technique and interaction with other road users can become volatile. At this point, the chance of accidents or reprimand (including speeding tickets or worse) increases.
Advanced Driving techniques are an excellent way to reframe these habits, learning to build satisfaction from refining driving techniques beyond what is taught in conventional driving lessons and all based upon the police drivers Roadcraft handbook. This is certainly not boring or slow driving. The techniques advocate for making progress on your drive, reaching your destination in the most efficient way possible, all the while being hyper-aware of your surroundings, driving hazards and your vehicle.
